Planning For Our Future!

The City of New Westminster Parks and Recreation Department is Planning For Our Future with the kick off of a Parks and Recreation Plan and Community Arts Strategy that will shape the delivery of parks, recreation and cultural services in New Westminster for the next 10 years. Although the two studies appear to be separate, they are happening concurrently to ensure the efficient use of available resources and to make certain project recommendatinos are coordinated and compliment each other. It is critical that the recommendations from both studies be coordinated and the Parks and Recreation services, resources and initiatives are aligned with the City's strategic vision and priorities.

Both studies will be completed in 2007 and focus on gathering feedback from residents, user groups, community groups, sports organizations, arts and culture organizations, artists and other important community stakeholders. Please follow the links below for further details on the projects and how you can provide your feedback into the studies.

Parks and Recreation Plan

The Parks and Recreation Plan will focus on developing Parks and Recreation services, infrastructure, partnerships and capital investments to better serve New Westminster residents, customers, sports organizations, community groups and visitors until 2017. Community Arts Strategy

The Community Arts Strategy will result in a 10-year plan focused on understanding, growing and improving the arts community, which includes arts organizations, artists, business and the City of New Westminster.

The Arts Strategy project includes all aspects of arts, visual & performing arts, music, theatre, dance, cultural diversity, educational & media arts.

Arts is
also a new area of operation to the Parks and Recreation Department. In order to effectively amalgamate arts and cultural services into the Parks and Recreation Department, we need to better understand the broad and diverse nature of Arts and Culture, the existing community resources and a needs assessment. The Arts Strategy will provide this information, which will result in an effective adoption of arts and cultural services into Parks and Recreation along with a clear vision and plan for the next 10 years.
