Picnic Shelter # 1 is the
largest picnic shelter in Queen's Park and is located just past the
Rainbow Playground and north of the bandshell in Queen's Park. It can
be booked by calling the Queen's Park Facilities office 604-777-5111.

Each picnic shelter area provides a covered structure with open sides
to meet your family, business or cultural function needs. Queen's Park
Large picnic shelter is 20 by 60 (1200 sq ft) with 14 picnic
tables seating 112 participants (maximum of 150 guests).

How
many tables are located in the shelter?
Can we use any of the other tables in the park?
There are 14 tables in the picnic shelter.
The picnic tables outside the shelter cannot be reserved and are used
on a first come, first served basis. If you wish to use any of the other
park tables, we suggest you arrive early and occupy the tables you require.
Please keep in mind that the park is for the enjoyment of all.
Will there
be other people using the park and spray pool at the time we are holding
our picnic?
Yes, as this is a public park there
will be other people enjoying the facilities but you will have exclusive
use of the picnic shelter.
How do you
reserve the softball diamonds?
You can reserve the softball diamonds
by calling New Westminster Parks and Recreation Main Office at 604-527-4567.
Please note that the softball diamonds are not included when you book
the picnic shelter.
How far in advance
can we book a picnic shelter?
Picnic shelter bookings are done on
an on-going basis for New Westminster residents, groups and businesses.
All other users may book after January 1st for the coming season.
Are there washrooms located
in the park?
There are washrooms located on either
side of Treats (concession stand) which is located right across from
the children's farm and spray park.
Is there power
located in the picnic shelter?
Yes, there are electrical outlets available
in the picnic shelter for your convenience.
Can we consume
alcohol in the park?
Drinking alcohol in a public park is unlawful. To ensure the safety
and enjoyment of your group and others, please ensure that this bylaw
is followed.
Is there a pay
phone located in the park?
Yes. There is a pay phone located in Queen's Park Arena lobby.
Where can
our guests park?
Queen's Park has plenty of parking along the roadway going through
the park, a lower parking lot by Centennial Lodge, a large parking lot
behind the Arena and an upper parking lot off of 1st Street and 4th
Avenue. All are within close distance to the picnic area.
Is there vehicle
access at the shelter?
No vehicle access is permitted for public safety reasons.
Is there a barbecue
located in the picnic shelter?
There are no barbecues located in the park. Groups are welcome to
bring their own barbecues. If you are using a charcoal barbecue please
empty coals in the special bin provided.
If it rains,
can we get a refund?
The picnic shelter was constructed
so that groups can hold their picnics through all inclement weather.
Unfortunately, we are unable to refund your money if you should cancel.
Is there water near
the picnic shelter?
There is a tap located in the shelter.
Are we required
to clean the picnic shelter?
It is each group's responsibility to pick up and dispose of all garbage
created by their group into the cans provided in and around the picnic
shelter. Thanks for helping us keep our parks clean.
Is there a place
nearby that we can purchase last minute items?
Yes, at Treats Concession. There is also a Safeway located at the
corner of McBride Boulevard and 8th Avenue.
Some
suggested items you might want to bring:
- garbage bags
- first aid kit
- spray park toys (i.e. buckets, containers to carry water, etc.)
- sun umbrella
- sunscreen
- lawn chairs
- table cloth
- camera and film

of the Queen's Park picnic shelter in Queen's Park and is located just
past the Rainbow Playground and north of the bandshell in Queen's Park.
